Funding for new aneurysm treatment

Jeroen Boogaarts received a grant (192,000 euro) from the Innovatiefonds Zorgverzekeraars to evaluate a new treatment for brain aneurysms.

This new endovascular treatment consists of placing a new type of stent, a so called flow diverter, in the diseased vessel. This enables thrombosis of the aneurysm and overgrowth of new vascular cells within the flow diverter which gives a reconstruction of the vessel. In this project the new treatment is compared with conventional treatment. The department of neurosurgery of the LUMC and the departments of neurosurgery and radiology of the MUMC+ collaborate in this project.
